The University of Southern California is a major force in higher education, and is respected worldwide. Its research facilities, location, and faculty make USC one of the most influential institutions of higher learning.  The University sits approximately five miles from downtown Los Angeles undergoing constant change. In this heyday the aristocrat of early Los Angeles populated West Adams and West Adams Heights.

Over the years the neighborhood has undergone an ongoing ethnic transformation and is now the home to students learning more about trio program university students and disadvantaged African American and Hispanics. Our nation has asserted a commitment to providing  educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstances. In support of this commitment, Congress established a series of programs to help disadvantaged students enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life. The programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Educational Act of 1965 and are known as TRIO Programs.

I The University's TRIO programs (Upward bound, Talent Search, and Upward bound Mathematics and Science Regional Center) are designed to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. These programs provide information, counseling, academic instruction, tutoring, assistance in applying for financial aid, encouragement and support.

Specifically, TRIO Programs help more than 700, 000 disadvantaged students each year at a cost of less than $200students learning more about trio program million dollars annually. Two-thirds of TWO students come from families with incomes of less than $18, 000 per year; most are academically under prepared; and most must overcome tremendous class and social barriers in order to participate in higher education.
